About
I’m a teacher, a tutor, and a relentless believer in your potential.
I’ve been helping students learn, grow, and surprise themselves for over 20+ years. I achieved perfect scores on the SAT and ACT, wrote seven books on test prep, and built one of the most trusted tutoring brands in the country, Tutor Ted. Now, at Amie Teaches, I do what I love most: working directly with students across the US and around the world to help them maximize their academic potential.
When I’m tutoring, I apply everything I’ve learned—about education, yes, but also about people. I’ve worked with thousands of students, each one different. The constant? Learning happens best when students feel safe, supported, and seen.
My students and their parents often tell me they’re surprised by how much they enjoy our lessons. I believe learning happens best when we’re fully engaged. I bring purpose and thoughtfulness to each conversation, which enables insight to emerge. When that happens, tutoring is more than effective; it’s genuinely enjoyable.
I earned an A.B. degree from Princeton University with a concentration in English and a certificate in Theater and an M.A. in Education from UCLA.
I’m a lifelong learner who is deeply curious and never too far from a good cup of tea. My work is grounded in care, clarity, and connection—and I’m here to help you thrive on your own terms.
Let’s learn in a way that feels like you.
“Amie is, without a doubt, the best SAT tutor around. She genuinely cares about her students and works to help them perform at their peak.”
— Lisa F., parent of Kyle
“Amie's individualized approach wasted no time in identifying high-yield areas for improvement. Kurt went to Tufts and Ariel went to Princeton. I can't recommend Amie highly enough!”
— Karen H., parent of Kurt and Ariel
